Received a job offer that seems too good to be true?
There are many different types of scam emails, you’ve probably encountered some in your inbox at one point or another and they’re usually easily identifiable. However, recently fraudsters have been making fake job offers in a bid to access people’s personal details. Many scammers will claim they’ve seen your CV on a recruitment website and will offer you a job – that doesn’t exist! Sometimes it can be difficult to tell if an offer is genuine or not as some of these scam emails can be very convincing.
Here are some things to look out for;
- Be wary if an email asks you for personal details, especially if it’s asking for information you’d never put on your CV such as bank details or proof of ID.
- Scam emails are often badly written with basic wording, spelling mistakes, and overuse of capital letters and exclamation marks, so keep an eye out for bad grammar.
- Scam job offers may give a lot of detail about the role but won’t ask for any qualifications or previous experience from candidates.
- Unlike genuine employers, scam ads won’t make you wait a period of time before hearing if you’ve got the job or not and usually within minutes of sending them a CV will make you an instant job offer.
