Campaigns and Research
Victim Support NI’s long-term vision is of a society in which tailored support and information is available to people affected by crime.
Northern Ireland has its own judicial system which is headed by the Lord or Lady Chief Justice of Northern Ireland.
To achieve this mission we must listen to the lived experiences of victims and witnesses and use what they tell us to inform our policy work. We then lobby those in power to make sure they are aware of the issues affecting victims and witnesses, and what can be done to improve the victim experience with the criminal justice system. In recent years we have seen the introduction of the Victim & Witness Charters, the Gillen review and recommendations, a Hate Crime review, the appointment of a Commissioner for Victims of Crime and a new Violence Against Women & Girls Strategy. There is more to be done.
In this section you can read our Consultation responses, which set out our position on various issues affecting victims and witnesses of crime. You can also view the recent research we have carried out, and access our campaigns.
You can support us in our work by telling us about your experience of the justice system. Please go to our feedback page to share your story with us.
